ILHIC Gives Thanks

November is a time of reflection, slowing down, giving thanks, and showing gratitude.  As we meet with our families in our homes or on video platforms, we are reminded how important our connections are, how grateful we are to have our health, and how to be there for our friends, families, and Illinois neighbors in need.

At ILHIC, our members are the backbone of our Council.  Not only do ILHIC’s member companies provide great collaboration to promote and advocate for policies that ensure that Illinois individuals, families, and employers have access to a health and competitive life insurance market, our members also create an impact within our neighborhood communities.

ILHIC’s members know how to go above and beyond for the communities they serve by not only providing great coverage but providing a “boots on the ground” approach to the health and wellness of the consumers they serve.  United Healthcare partnered with Chicago Bears defensive lineman Akiem Hicks to provide new shoes to 170 children in foster care in Chicago.[1] Cigna funded a grant that funds the University of Chicago’s South Side Pediatric Asthma Center.[2]  Pekin Insurance provides educational resources regarding life insurance by establishing one of the top insurance blogs in 2021.[3]

ILHIC’s members understand that to serve the community in a diverse and equitable way, companies must focus on building diversity and equity from the inside out.  Northwestern Mutual is lessening the racial gap by committing to diversity and inclusion in its home and field culture to ensure people and businesses achieve financial security.[4]  Prudential promoted diversity and inclusion by committing 13 million dollars in support of the My Brother’s Keeper initiative.[5]  Cigna promotes diversity by establishing the Cigna Supplier Mentor Protégé Program (CSMPP), which assists minority suppliers by pairing them with Cigna executives for 18 months to help develop and grow their businesses.[6]

ILHIC’s examples today are not exhaustive.  Our members work each day to provide and invest in our families, communities, and employers.  Illinois is home to a competitive and vibrant insurance market.  ILHIC gives thanks to each of our company members for embodying the mission and core values of our Council, which is central to our advocacy work to ensure the financial health and wellbeing of everyone in our state.
